Digital Trade Platforms Powering Singapore SME Exports — The 2026 Ecosystem

Singapore’s approach to enabling SME exports extends well beyond grants and regulations. The city-state has systematically built a digital trade ecosystem that lowers the barriers to cross-border commerce, making international sales as frictionless as domestic transactions. This infrastructure is not incidental — it is a deliberate competitive strategy.

The Networked Trade Platform (NTP) serves as a one-stop trade and logistics ecosystem connecting players across the entire trade value chain. For SMEs, the platform provides tools to digitalise operations, store and reuse trade documents securely, and connect with the wider ecosystem through a single integration point. The NTP enables businesses to generate trade documents through cloud ERP solutions, apply for international permits, and access invoice financing services — all within a unified environment.

The Grow Digital initiative, jointly administered by IMDA and Enterprise Singapore, allows SMEs to participate in B2B and B2C e-commerce platforms to sell overseas without requiring a physical presence in target markets. Pre-approved B2B platforms include Eezee.sg for industrial hardware and EzyProcure for food and beverage products. On the B2C side, the Multichannel E-commerce Platform (MEP) Programme enables SMEs to list products on multiple overseas marketplaces through a single provider, with digital marketing support and training from the Singapore Institute of Retail Studies.

In a significant development for consumer-facing SMEs, Amazon Global Selling has collaborated with Enterprise Singapore and the Singapore Business Federation to launch the Amazon Global Selling Singapore Cross-border Brand Launchpad. The programme will help over 100 local MSMEs launch and scale their brands in the United States over two years, with dedicated account management, marketing optimisation, and product certification advisory support. As independent sellers, MSMEs already account for 60% of Amazon’s store sales, and sales from Singapore sellers on Amazon global sites have achieved double-digit year-on-year growth.

Looking ahead, Singapore and Indonesia are developing Taia (Trade AI Advisor), a generative AI-based platform designed to help smaller firms identify export markets and buyers. The tool, being built by the Singapore Business Federation and Kadin, will analyse trade data to guide businesses on what products may find demand, where they could be sold, and which exporters already operate in those markets. Early milestones are due in January, with a wider launch planned for 2027.

According to PayPal data, more than 90,000 Singapore-based businesses — approximately one in four registered firms — sold internationally through its platform, processing over 60 million cross-border transactions and reaching 14 million global customers. Fashion, gaming, and beauty were the top-performing export categories, generating more than US$1.6 billion in combined transaction value. These figures demonstrate that digital commerce is no longer a supplementary channel — it is a primary pathway to international markets.
